The national standards released this time are closely related to the theme of "International Standards and the Fourth Industrial Revolution" of World Standards Day on October 14 this year, including national standards in many fields such as smart cities, information security, and circular economy.

A smart city is a complex system involving many technologies such as the Internet of Things, cloud computing, and big data . At present, many cities in China are building or planning to build smart cities, but due to the lack of unified standards, various departments and systems of the city are independently constructed and segmented, forming various types of "data islands." The implementation of this new national standard will provide theoretical foundations and technical support for the construction of smart city information technology, help to achieve the standardization of data resources, help to sort out the key functional elements of the construction of the smart city's Internet of Things system, and overall the system construction Guidance to improve the level and quality of smart city informatization construction.

The Smart City-Oriented IoT Technology Application Guide (hereinafter referred to as the "Guide") is applicable to the planning, design and implementation of IoT systems in smart cities, and will be formally implemented on May 1, 2019. The "Guide" gives the standards of the IoT reference architecture for smart cities, and specifies the composition of each functional domain of the IoT system in smart cities and the IT (information technology) infrastructure that supports the realization of domain functions.
