In recent years, the issue of food safety and hygiene has aroused widespread concern in the society, and it has become a very urgent task to solve the problems in animal food safety as soon as possible. The application of RFID technology to the traceability system of animal food safety is conducive to the thorough realization of "source" food tracking and scientific and transparent management of food safety.

1. Animal food traceability process and information model:

The animal food safety traceability system includes many links from "farm" to "consumer", including: farm, transportation and logistics, slaughterhouse, logistics and warehousing, supermarket and consumer 6 links. The matching information model is shown in Figure 1.

2. The basic framework of the traceability system:

The data of the traceability system is gradually generated in multiple links in the animal food production process, and added to the traceability system in the corresponding links. The storage and management of a large number of multi-type traceability information is difficult to achieve only by identifying labels. A combination of labels and data centers is required to meet the complex requirements of information management in traceability systems. Through the labeling technology, each product in the animal food processing chain is uniquely identified, as shown in Figure 2. A corresponding information management platform is established at each processing link, which collects information of each product in the processing link and summarizes it to the food safety data center. Throughout the entire process, there are specialized government agencies for supervision. Consumers can inquire from the data center according to the label of the product all the production links and key information that the product has gone through. Manufacturers at any link can trace the product up and down through the system. The government can use the information in the data center. Establish an automatic food safety monitoring platform.

3. Application of organic RFID in animal food traceability system:

Animal food involves many aspects such as animal husbandry, slaughter processing, distribution and sales. The entire production process from the farm to the dining table is much more complicated than other foods, so the retrospective information covers a wider scope, a greater amount of information, and traceability. The frequency of switching between messages is higher. However, according to the current economic foundation and industry development level in China, it is unrealistic to use electronic tags in the entire production and distribution process. Different production links have different requirements for label technology, and can be flexibly selected according to needs.

3.1 Farms:

In combination with the breeding time of livestock and the life span of inorganic RFID tags, inorganic RFID tags are used for livestock that have been bred for more than one year, and organic RFID tags have been used for livestock that is less than one year old. In the breeding process, organic RFID tags or inorganic RFID tags can be used as required. Although the cost of inorganic RFID is higher than organic RFID tags, the increased cost is acceptable for large animals due to the limited number of livestock during the breeding stage.

The "slaughter identification code" and "production identification code" are registered in the data center and a corresponding relationship is established. The "slaughter identification code" is then marked on the label and becomes the unique identification of a specific part of a specific livestock. The meat can be traced through the "production identification code", and the animals before the division can be traced through the "slaughter identification code", which completes the transfer and transmission of traceability information from the whole animal to the meat.

After the meat is divided, each part needs to be labeled for identification, and the number of tags required is relatively large. The use of inorganic RFID tags will bring great cost burden. Therefore, it can only track and manage the batch. The individual meats are tracked and managed. The use of very inexpensive organic RFID tags or two-dimensional bar codes can solve the cost problem very well. However, the reading of the two-dimensional bar code is restricted, which is not suitable for the automatic reading of identification codes in multiple production links in the slaughterhouse, and the two-dimensional bar code is easily contaminated and is not suitable for the needs of the slaughterhouse. In view of the short time in the slaughter process, the life span of organic RFID can meet the needs of this process. Organic RFID tags have the advantages of environmental adaptability, cost, and reading methods. They can play an irreplaceable role in slaughtering and segmentation.

3,4 Warehouse logistics:

Due to cost reasons, inorganic RFID tags cannot be used, and only two-dimensional bar codes or organic RFID tags can be used. in conclusion:

Organic RFID tags have the advantages of convenient and easy use of inorganic RFID tags, and low cost similar to two-dimensional bar codes. Although they are inferior to inorganic RFID in terms of reading speed, capacity and service life, they are used in the application of animal food traceability. These characteristics are not necessary for every link, which provides a space for positive effects for low-cost organic RFID tags.

The main links of the animal food safety traceability system include farms, transportation logistics, slaughterhouses, logistics warehousing, supermarkets, and consumers. According to the characteristics of each link and its requirements for labeling technology, organic RFID is expected to be used in slaughterhouses, transportation and storage. In place of inorganic RFID, organic RFID can also be used in breeding and logistics transportation for animals with shorter breeding time, and organic RFID or two-dimensional tags can be selectively used in supermarkets. The use of organic RFID will greatly reduce the cost of animal food traceability, thereby promoting the widespread use of animal food traceability technology.
